Brass decorations loss their shine over time because they can oxidize! And when it comes to cleaning the brass, many chemicals aren’t effective or they can ruin the material. The great news is that I found some secret or not so secret cleaning hacks that will effectively clean brass items without losing their shine.
Their advantage is that you won’t spend a lot of money or inhale toxic vapors from chemicals.
Flour and salt paste
Prepare a paste made of equal amounts of flour and salt and add water until you get the consistency of toothpaste. Apply the paste with a sponge on the brass objects and rub well, and then rinse with plenty of water.
Spicy Ketchup
Although it seems strange, spicy ketchup or other sauce containing chili peppers is beneficial in cleaning the brass objects. Apply the sauce on a sponge and rub well the spot. Then rinse with warm water. Repeat the process if necessary.
Coke
This beloved juice is a good antioxidant of brass. Small brass items can be sunk in Coke for a few minutes. Then you can rub them with an abrasive sponge.
Another option is to cover brass items in a cloth soaked in Coke.
